Last Thursday Restaurant La Casa welcomed a very special visit: journalist Christopher Baker, from the United States, one of the renowned experts in the travel world.
We had exchanged dozens of messages after the article Mr. Baker published in his blog, and now he was here at La Casa. And such an expected night couldn’t have been better.
Mr. Baker came accompanied by some friends from the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, headed by Reid Callanan. Among mojitos, piña colada, and wine, they tasted a selection of some of the best starters of our menu: salmon, crab, ceviche, octopus, shrimp, eggplant lasagna… Then the main course consisted of rabbit au champignon, red snapper à l’olive oil, and Mr. Baker preferred curried chicken.
The guests highly praised La Casa Cuban food. Some of them had been in Havana before, but they did not know about this restaurant. Others promised to return to La Casa in their next visit to the island. They felt at home in our restaurant.
After dinner they exchanged with three of our Cuban photographers, Erick Coll, Juan Manuel Cruz del Cueto and Miguel Puldón; some of their photos can be seen on the walls of the restaurant.
I talked to Mr. Baker about the opportunities which the relaxation of restrictions of Americans to visit Cuba. We agreed to stay in contact.
It was a great honor for La Casa to receive him and his friends. Few persons in the world know Cuba so much as this American journalist. His admiration of our recipes of Cuban cuisine is one of the best prices we have received in over 15 years of work.
